Would you be impressed?

It's been a while since I've seen this film but there's been a question that has nagged me about it. Let's put aside the implausibility of the plot (how many guys would spend their last summer before college doing this and how many parents would let them and not call the cops to have him hauled away?) and focus on the central motivator: does this audacious act of love impress women? Would you be pleased and feel kindly toward a guy parked outside of your house for a month+ or would you feel disturbed and wish he would just go away? Would it depend on who the guy was or would any guy doing this make you feel the same way?

How about other large displays of interest? If a guy sent you a dozen roses every day for three months would you be impressed or have a restraining order issued? What if the geekiest guy you knew offered to paint your house and fence for free, would you let him?

I guess its a little bit of both. yes, i would be a little annoyed, but overall, the fact that their willing to do that would be kind of sweet.

I'd be a little freaked out, honestly. It would be flattering at first but after a while I'd be like "ok, you can go home now. it isn't cute and endearing anymore!" In reality, that girl, no matter how much she liked him before, would've been totally freaked out by his behavior. Her parents? They so would've called the cops after the first day! Of course, that is why this is a romantic comedy. Characters get away with all sorts of crap in the name of romance in a romantic comedy. Most guys would end up looking like asses in the real world.

well i think it played out in the movie. at first she was freaked out but since he was an actual nice decent guy she eventually liked him.

I would be totally impressed.

If I were a chick, I'd say that it shows commitment.

I'd be kind of impressed.

If the woman is attracted to the man he doesn't have to do a grand gesture like this. If she is not attracted there is no gesture grand enough to change her mind. Any guy trying this would be arrested for stalking, especially in this day and age. One of the great fallacies of life is that a man can win the heart of a woman if he just tries hard enough. Nope--doesn't happen. I personally believe in the 5-minute theory: a woman knows in the first five minutes after meeting a meeting if she will ever be romantically (or physically) interested in him.

I watched this movie back in the day and realized the central point - he showed her he was available. In the end, she realized he would be faithful, love her the way she needs to be loved and be trustworthy. Any man who would do something like that isn't creepy - but is showing how far he's willing to go to win her attention. Stalking? I think not.

Folks these days would laugh this guy out of town - but in reality, the divorce rate would absolutely drop if every man had to do this for a month before he married his wife.

How do I know his method works? I tried it on a woman who wasn't interested in me. 7 years later - and two children later - we're still together and in love.

Notice nothing romantically happened between them until she looked out and he was gone. BLAM!

The parents loved the guy. It's not totally implausible. Considering the girl played a royal biatch and the parents were annoyed by her behavior, it's not implausible at all.

If it was some random girl that the boy never knew, yes cops... etc.

reply

No, I wouldn't be impressed. If I'm not interested, I'm not interested and harassment won't change my mind.

I'm not sure where in the world you got love from stalking a girl you have a crush on and mostly wanna bang.
