If it was made today, the bear would be CGI

And this film just wouldn't be the same. IE The Grey

Luckily it was made in 1997.

Yeah, the guy in the bear suit did a great job.

Was he Andy Serkis? ;-)

I'm sure they would use a real bear if they could

That's exactly what I said to my brother as we were watching it the other day, that I was glad it was a real bear and not a CGI bear. CGI can really help to ruin certain movies if it's not done right. And plus, with CGI it just doesn't feel as real. But with this movie it feels real since there's a real animal on the screen.

On a separate note, I really disliked 'The Grey'. Not just because the CGI wolves looked totally fake, but the movie as a whole I thought was boring and majorly bleak & depressing. Really didn't understand the point of the film, either.

You remind me of a white crayon... totally useless.

I felt the same, ImaginarenLicht. The short story the film was based on, Ghost Walker by Ian MacKenzie Jeffers, is worth searching out. It makes better sense of the original ideas, and you can see how they had to pad and drag it out to make a full-length film. Jeffers also wrote an expanded version of the story as a novella, this time called The Grey, to explain the film better.

You might very well think that. I couldn't possibly comment.
