a very good movie that cant be remade for one reason
Cell phones
shareLots of places in the backwoods of Alaska are not within reach of cell phone towers. A billionaire would probably not go into the wild without a satellite phone; however, you could always have it broken when submerged in the lake.

Oh....dear....god.
Tell you what...go test your theory. Have someone drop you in the middle of the wild and see how well you do with your cellphone...
very funny *beep*

Bwahahaha!
Cell phones have not existed for some time. That technology is defunct, at least in the west.
A mobile phone would be of little use while the battery lasted. There are no towers in the remote Alaskan wilderness. Sh!t, I can't get reception in random places in cities(damn you AT&T).
The real question is, why didn't he have a satellite phone? The first generation of iridium satellite phones existed when this film was made.
I suppose the script was written before then, or the writer was unaware they existed.
We got cell phones now and people still get lost in the wilderness and die.
shareWith iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Pro models, you can use Emergency SOS via satellite to text emergency services when you're out of cellular and Wi-Fi coverage.
Hopefully I’ll never have to use mine for this. But it’s nice to know it’s there.
