Feud between Pitt and Ford?
Hiya...kinda remember reading somewhere that Pitt and Ford hated each other's guts during the making of the film and, probably, after. Is that true?

Yep...I totally agree. Thanks Suzy :)

There were rumors about this hate, but the actors have never interchanged accusations publicly (during an interview). Pitt was basically frustrated about changes concerning the original script and about improvisations in the schedule of the whole project, but he never said publicly anything against Harrison Ford.
In an interview, Ford said that the frustration stemmed from the fact that the script was often being reworked, and that they had started filming before the script was finished. There was no discussion about a feud between the two of them.

No. Years after this movie came out, Pitt showed up at some event honoring Ford and was a guest speaker.
shareYou're right, it was a lifetime achievement award of some kind and Pitt even joked something like, "Harrison Ford's been in 7 of the top 20 money makers of all time, unfortunately ours wasn't one of them."
The 'feud' had a lot to do with Pitt being a young actor and not used to being on a movie that was constantly being re-written, something Ford has had a lot of experience with, ie: The Fugitive.
Originally, Pitt's character was the focus of the story and had even more scenes, such as a love scene with the girl from Ireland. Pakula and Ford decided to try and expand Ford's role since he was the bigger box office draw and Pitt got frustrated as a result.
I still think this is an underappreciated movie. Pitt's performance is very good. Most language experts agree his accent matches the regional Irish dialect his character is from. There are some great scenes. The best being the confrontation in the basement where Pitt asks Ford what he would have done if it had been his family. Great acting from both.
I don't really think the feud was between Ford and Pitt. To reiterate what others have said, it was a script issue and caused frustraion on both sides due to numerous rewrites. Pitt once indicated in an interview that the scipt they ended up shooting hardly resembled what he had initially read when he agreed to do the film in the first place.
Yes, Brad Pitt was a guest speaker at the 2000 AFI Lifetime Achievement Award Ceremony honoring Harrison Ford. Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston sat at table 303 (Sharon Stone was sitting at the same table.)

My comment comes from a story in Entertainment Weekly shortly after the film came out, I can't remember the exact issue or I would have been more specific. The focus of the story was a group of dialect experts were asked to rate the performances of 5 different actors that had used "Irish" accents in their movies. Pitt in Devil's Own was one of the performance, the others were Richard Gere in "The Jackal", Jeff Bridges in the one bomber movie with Tommy Lee Jones and I can't remember the others. Basically, they were rated on a scale of 1 to 5. Gere was ripped by the panel who said his accent was horrible. The others weren't that good, getting 2-3's. Pitt got a 4.5 from the article. One expert commented that not only did he have a passable Irish accent, it matched the region his character was supposed to be from in the movie. It made me respect Pitt a bit more as an actor. That's where my comment was based from. If I could find the article, I'd post a link for you.

I'll defer to "dialect experts" but it still didnt sound like any irishmen ive ever heard. As for Pitt not acting in smaller films I have to disagree Snatch was a risky proposition for a big name american actor what with Richie not being real reconized in the states. And Avid, which I still see you as, we seem to run into eachothe alot dont we.
shareI'll granted that a Northern accent is different than other Irish regional accents but he wasnt even close.
shareI always wonder, though, why anyone cares what any actor's accent sounds like. For that matter, I don't really know any two people who speak the same, and I know a lot of people who have various odd pronunciations, vocal characteristics, etc.
shareI read that Ford's character went from being more of a wimp to a macho man during rewrites. Which is a shame because acting wise he has played this role over and over again. His acting chops could have been expanded as a "releuctant hero"
ala "Frailty". But then again he sure stretched in that lame comedy with Anne Heche!)
