AHHH! HOLY CRAP!

I just watched this film and nearly DIED! Know the part where they're sitting around the table and Brad Pitt is asked where abouts in Ireland he came from? And he answers "Cookstown?" I LIVE THERE!!! I LIVE IN COOKSTOWN! I nearly DIED!

...Ok I know you people dont give a *beep* but I had to release my excitement and amazement somewhere.

Oh and you guys going on about how bad his "Irish" accent is? Well its probably a bad "Irish" accent because it ISNT Irish. It was an ULSTER accent, and they're completely different, and, as someone who HAS an Ulster accent, I can safely say he ddi a good job at it.

Thank you for your insights, especially in regards to Pitt's accent.

Ulster is an irish accent......and if you should know, so should i. I have one too......plus, i too thought pitt wasn't that bad.

It must have a good story. Otherwise, it's just masturbation.

reply

Really? Well I live in Belfast and his accent was all over the shop.

What's the weather like in Cookstown?

reply

So did I!! Although I couldn't possibly comment on any accent of Brad Pitt's - as I live in Germany where almost all feature films are synchronised, in that process all accents are lost - and the film was on TV.

Brad Pitt's acting was superb. I could sympathise with 'Frankie/Rory' throughout the whole film, and my feelings never shifted towards the cop although I could understand him, too.

I'm from Donegal which as pointed out is in Ulster and thus Ireland, I have cousins in Armagh and friends all over the six occupied counties and Brad Pitt's accent sounded like nothing I've ever heard. As for his acting while fine he has much better performances it seems he just wasnt into this role.

reply

Why is it so difficult for people to understand that you don't have to speak the accent of your childhood home? The main point is that it is an Irish accent and he does it very well.

reply

Ulster and Northern Ireland are not one in the same. Ulster straddles both the North and several counties around it. Thus Irish and Ulster could be one in the same.

Sorry, I'm just being pedantic ;)

reply

Pitts accent sounded like he was from Dublin in the republic!! And Northern Ireland and Ulster is one and the same.

reply

'Northern Ireland and Ulster is one and the same'

I hope your not from Donegal which is in Ulster but not N. Ireland. The 4 provinces in Ireland goes back before the British knew Ireland existed.

Brad Pitts accent was not a bad attempt but it was about five different accents in one that was the main problem as he even got a southern accent in there at one point but most people cant do a any irish accent.
