Help on the meaning of the movie's title
English is not my first language so I really don't get it. Does it mean the devil's own fate or something? Does the word 'Own' mean anything special here?
My China includes Tibet.

Maybe you'll get the answer if you get to see another Brad Pitt movie of that same year: "Seven years in Tibet" released in 1997.(and it doesn't include your China)
Don't bother to post nonsense if you don't know the answer. I have plenty of Tibetan friends at my university so I don't need anyone else especially not misinformed foreigners to tell me whether Tibet is part of China. My China includes Tibet.
It's no bother at all to me! Really! By the way, Dalai Lama is being received by European leaders as the Chief of State of Tibet, (making chinese officials very angry)did your classmates knew that?
shareOK heres a few things the title to the movie may be a reference to the fact that many Irish Republicans feel they will never see St. Peter do to the things that have done in the war agenst England not to say that the actions of the IRA have been unjustified but in the eyes of the Catholic church they are sins
second you will never be able to understand the fight for a Free and United Ireland if you don't understand a free Tibet self government is the right of all people thats what the IRA and the PIRA fought for and its what the CIRA fights for still
Dude I respect the views of Irish people but I wouldn't go so far as to talk nonsense about this IRA issue I haven't studied. Do you mean Irish Republicans failed to notice their own wrongdoings?
But the Dalai Lama is a theocrat who used to own slaves in that 'holy land' of his until he got his ass kicked by Mao, who the west see as evil. Now just as the CIA support Bin Laden in the 1980s to fight USSR, they're supporting Dalai to jeopardize China. But we won't give up the territory that has been part of ours for centuries just because a few Lamas want it. In many ways I don't like the communist party here but at least they're way better than theocrats. Anyway thanks a lot for your explanation.
no what Im saying is they do notice there own wrongdoings some Republicans have stated that even though they feel there actions were justified they understand that to kill is a sin and for that they will never see the gates of heaven or meet St. Peter now Im not attacking your beliefs on the Tibet and Chinas relations (thought I dont agree with them) what Im saying is that the arguments that you put forward as to why Tibet should stay part of China is the same arguments the British government uses to explain why Ulster (or Norther Ireland) should remain part of England. Get what Im saying?
shareI see now. Thanks for you explanation. But the extrapolation from Ireland to Tibet is illogical. I haven't been to Tibet yet but I have been to heavily Tibetan populated area in Sichuan(the earthquake zone)back in 2005 and I can tell you the situation there is far from what some western medias want you to believe(e.g. spiritual buddhists fighting repressive commies). Besides I have almost a dozen tibetan friends here in Beijing most of whom are more interested in improving their lives, although not fans of the Communist party. Anyway, your explanation further discloses the hypocrisy of BBC who would rather choose to report(falsely)about a country thousands of miles away rather than mind their own business about Ireland&Britain. Have a good one.
sharewhat do you mean part of england
NI want to remain a part of GB
and ireland wanting to create a united ireland
is like saying that england want a united england- including wales and scotland- we havent got the right to do that so why should NI want to be part of ireland
