I don't get it!
Why did Tom have to lie? Eddie wasn't there to see the perp give up his gun, so he shot him because he believed he was armed. Why would he get in trouble.
shareCaus Eddie told Tom the guy turned around and shot at him, so he (eddie) shot at the guy. But Tom knew the man didn't had a gun anymore, so Tom knew Eddie was lying.

Eddie still wouldn't get it in trouble because he suppossedly thought he saw a gun. Ford still had no reason to lie.

Well Ford said to the kid they caught shopliftng that you get yourself shot running from the police. In reality Eddie may well have been within his rights as the Perp was evading arrest having demonstrated lethal intent with a firearm.
