Why Pitt didnt like the film

Heres a fun fact, all of the Brits love to make a big deal about the fact that Brad Pitt wanted nothing to do with this film after it was released. Know why? Because after Pitt did his research on the Republican struggle against British oppression, he thought that the film didn't show ENOUGH sympathy to the IRA character.... fancy that eh?

I think the guy who made the "Al Qaeda, the new IRA" post needs to look up a little Irish history aswell.

Oh by the way, I still don't like the film.

Aaah poor Brits. No matter how much screaming about how "the IRA bombed us a couple of times, so that makes it OK for us to oppress Ireland!!!!" they do and trying to play the good guy, almost the entire world still sympathises with the IRA.

Keep the change, ya filthy animal...

Pitt was the one who screwed this film up. The original screenplay was edgier and darker. He kept demanding re-writes.

The Trivia notes that Pitt signed on after reading the original script. There is nothing that says that Pitt wanted that original script to be less edgy.

No-one's oppressing Ireland. The people in the north have decided to stay a part of the U.K and the Republic doesn't want the north, too costly. And the British have a right to be pissed seeing as the IRA like to make its point by setting off bombs in public areas. No-one in their right mind sympathises with the IRA, unless you think they feel sorry for them for being such a marginal and fringe group.

If impersonating a Police Officer is an offence, shouldn't actors be imprisoned?

Where did you get this info from?

Oh yeah, right you are. I'd love to see what the original script was like before whatever group of worthless bastards decided to cut it up.

I don't see any such 'fact' listed, therefore I shall assume you were talking bollocks and slandering the good name of a well reknowned actor.

The IRA are old news, they've stopped fighting a war that no one in Ireland wanted in the first place and Ulster is still the responsibility of the UK. So much for your republican 'freedom fighter' rhetoric that you apologists always plaster on internet message boards. 'British oppression', I think you will find you were doing that well enough yourselves, stop trying to find a bloody scapegoat for Ireland's civil war.

As for Irish history, here's a little bit that I dug up, doesn't it make you proud?

Actually, most people in Northern Ireland - Protestant AND Catholic - want to remain part of the United Kingdom. As with Bermuda, Gibraltar, the Cayman Islands, Scotland, Jersey, etc their are economic reasons to remain under British control and very few people desire independence (or joining Ireland in the case of Northern Ireland). Look at Bermuda's 1995 independence referendum - 75% voted in favor of remaining a British colony, poll after poll shows that only about 20-25% of Scots want independence from the UK, so much for evil imperialist occupying Brits ...

Brits occupying Britain is a contradiction in terms and your comment in general is misleading, the British Empire wasn't built with hugs and kisses.

Not enough sympathy? lol. It was practically a love letter to his character... starting with the very fact he´s played by Brad Pitt. But, yeah, the film sucks - a tired, by-the-numbers crime thriller with a bunch of cliches and implausibilities. And the Irish-tinged whine on the soundtrack almost made my ears bleed. A really poor number for Pakula to go out on - but he´d been past it for a long time, anyway.
