Other sea monster movies

My attitude to Deep Rising has always been - 'yeah, its alright, the lines are cheesy, several actors are miscast in their roles, the CGI is pretty fake and it borrows way too much from Aliens in its plot structure, but you know what I haven't seen a better Sea Monster movie elsewhere so until one comes around, this'll do.'

So are there other decent - or better - sea monsters like Deep Rising that are worth recommending? Cos I honestly don't know of any.

Leviathan (with Peter Weller) isn't bad. It's basically Deep Rising meets The Abyss.

More like The Abyss meets The Thing.

I mean, really, how many times will you look under Jabba's manboobs?

Theres a Korean one Sector 7. Cheesey but i enjoyed.

I enjoyed Leviathan, but it was basically a rehash of Alien meets The Thing.

I enjoyed Deepstar Six, it was like a mix of The Abyss & Destination Inner Space.

I did see Sector 7. It has it's moments but it suffers from a very non-scary monster and too many scenes where the drilling team appear to be playing with the creature instead of being terrified of it.

Deep Rising is a fun movie but it has way too many flaws. How exactly did that creature stop a massive ship like the Argonautica in it's tracks? How were it's tentacles able to stretch so far throughout the ship but it's body was elsewhere? How did the tentacle fit up the toilet?? How was it able to kill everyone on the ship that quickly, did they not even try to hide?? Why was hot chick Leila with Joey??? And on and on.

The monster didn't stop the Argonautica in its tracks. The SABOTEUR stopped the ship in its tracks by swapping out the control discs.

You might need to watch the movie again. ;-)

Oh, and the monster has dozens, maybe hundreds of tentacles that can extend throughout the ship and eat nearly everyone because it doesn't exist in real life, and therefore logic dictates that it can have dozens, perhaps even hundreds of tentacles that can extend throughout the ship and eat everyone. :-)

From what we were shown, the creature is swimming up towards the ship. The ship's propellers are still going full speed when it grabs hold of the ship.

Or are we to believe the creature grabbed hold of the ship at the exact moment the propellers stopped? From what I gathered, the control discs disabled the communications and navigation functions to prevent the crew from broadcasting for help.

Either way, it was dumb.

I suggest checking out CREATURE, a two-part TV miniseries starring Craig T. Nelson. It's quite creepy.
