Bizare mix of genres
This movie was an odd mix of little bits of After hours, Hellraiser, The watchers, The adjustment bureau, Westworld, memento, shutter island, Taken,...and a few others...and it was made before all of them.
shareDark City reminds me most of Rod Serling's original Twilight Zone (1959), Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow (2004), and The Matrix (1999). It really was a forerunner for a lot of movies that followed. As to whether these movies "borrowed ideas from" or "were influenced by" Dark City, I have not heard for sure.
shareYes, I forgot to put the Matrix on my list after sleeping on it. Never saw Sky Captain. I'm a Twilight Zone lover though.
I don't really think it there was much influence or connections one way or the other, just more oddball coincidences, like the outfits and bald heads reminding me of Pinhead from Hellraiser.
