Asking about a coffee machine and beans in 96?

This movie was ahead of its time. Nobody cared what brand bean was used in the 90s or the machine used.

We just wanted it hot and fresh.

Did a time traveller write this?

reply

Supposedly they did in the Pacific Northwest, that was actually a stereotype of the time.

reply

Oh I see. I didn’t notice cafes advertising what beans they used until the 2000s. I’m not anbean snob but some are.

reply

I have no idea whether there was any truth to the stereotype of Pacific Northwesterners being obsessed with coffee, I can only report it was a stereotype at the time.

reply

I lived in Oregon in the mid-90s. All the yuppies had coffee machines and bought gourmet beans.

reply

That's where Starbuck's was founded.

reply

Lived in Los Angeles in 96 and they most certainly cared about what beans were used. Perhaps it was a west coast thing since others say it was also a concern in the northwest.

reply

Probably just me not noticing this being a thing for awhile.

reply

I don't think it was really mainstream until starbucks, and even then their biggest competitor for a while was Winchell's because many people would much rather pat $0.75 for a cup of joe instead of $3+ for a coffeehouse gourmet brew. Also, unless you had a local coffeehouse you probably never had a chance to care.

reply

My Uncle and Aunt have cared about their coffee beans since the 80s. Can't speak for earlier as I wasn't born yet.
