This is certainly one of those movies which deserves a part 2...

I loved this movie and watch it again every few years. To me it represents the best of a lot of struggles (religion vs. science, world diversity, political crap, etc...) and my fundamental belief that there are others out there in the universe. But at least for now and the foreseeable future there's just no good or economical way to reach them.

I was somewhat happy to see an "Independence day part 2" after 20 years, but that's a straight up action alien flick. Contact was quite a bit more on the physiological side of things and I would very much enjoy a part 2

No, that's too stupid to be credible. ;)
