new dvd

I was just wondering if anybody had any info on the new dvd release. According to Amazon.com, there is a new edition being released on October 19 2004. If anyone hears anything about improvements, special features, etc., please share. Thanks a lot.

i think that's part of the remastered kino box set. visit kino's website for info. all movies in the set are to be remastered, with the exception of chungking.

From what I read, it looks more like "another side of Happy Together" which was mostly or totally cut from the original version, plus some of "behind the scenes". Its only a 57min product.

Two things:

First, this upcoming dvd is being sold separately, but is also being included in the Wong Kar-Wai 5 movie collection box set (they are the same version - a new remastered dvd).

Second, this is not a 57 minute product - what maia-9 is referring to is only a special feature for Happy Together, so do not be misled. In fact, Happy Together is one of the only films that has any notable extras, with this documentary being one of them. So that's a plus - a new remastered dvd for Happy Together AND good supplement material.

The box set includes a newly remastered copy of both Happy Together and Fallen Angels. The remastering is excellent, especially with Fallen Angels: it's almost like watching a new movie. The new extra for Happy Together includes a 59 minute documentary, in which people revisit the making of the film (and literally revisit Buenos Ares) and in which the scenes cut from the film are shown. The cut scenes show a very different movie, not unlike the scenes for a similar short film about Kar-Wai's follow-up to Happy Together, In the Mood for Love.

I suppose a nice memorial to Leslie Cheung would have been nice on the new version of the DVD, though I'm not sure if that's appropriate. The filmographies included on the DVD don't include any note on his demise, even. There is a nice tribute to him at

All in all, I would highly recommend the box set.

i was kind of disappointed in the fact that there arent really any new special features on any of the dvds in the box set...aside from the new remastering and such...and deleted scenes..i was hoping for alot more.
