when leslie cheung died, did the HK movie industry die with him?

I think thats the case, living in mainland i havent seen one movie in the last few years that had the power and tenacity of older HK films, even the kung fu movies are less inspiring than anything else nowadays(luckily the US and Thailand are filling the shoes). most HK movies seem to be about corrupt police stories and then something else, i am especially dissapointed by the nationalistic movie flood that is coming from the mainland now. every year a new piece of crap movie glorifying the victory of the cpc agaisnt the evil japanese...its so boring and superficial its unbelievable. lets take yip man for example, good fight scenes but again the sadistic portray of japanese war mongers turned me off then anything else, that the movie was a success in china proves yet again how stupid some people are. red cliff is also just a boring rehash of chinese history without any glimpse of creativity. zhao you with liu de hua was the worst from all those...what a boring movie.

of course there are exceptions like jay chous movies, they are not good but at least present some sense of creativism that i miss from the OLD DAYS...

now we get nanjing nanjing or whats the name in english...i forgot, just terrible.

what happenend to the old school, a chinese ghost story, white haired bride, the blade, just to name a few fantasy kung fu classics.

in dramas its even worse, nothing has the strenght like happy together or other examples from the 90s HK cinema. since zhang yi mao everything is so overdone in your face and unrealistic i cannot bear that.

what the hell is happening here...

can some chinese folks here on the board give me some glimpse what happenend to your great movie culture?

Yeah, I miss the past too. Started watching HK movies since I was about 8-9 years old, and had some heroes from the films...
