The ending was horrible, also lots of ridiculous scenarios.

The ending was crap, most of the movie was good until I got to the end. The whole scenario where Affleck wanted his friend, Banky, and Alyssa to engage in a three way was both ridiculous and stupid. Just poor writing and not knowing how to end a movie. We all know that Ben Affleck's character is NOT gay and same goes for Banky. So it is just so stupid.
Now for Ben Affleck getting pissed about her past in the first place was dumb too. Why would he ruin this once in a lifetime relationship because of her past that she so desperately is trying to put behind her? She is trying to start her life over with the man of her dreams and he pushes her away because, what, he feels he is not match for her? Come on!
Any knucklehead would realize that she is trying everything to be with him but this guy.
He tried everything to be with her and now he gives up?
Wow, just poor writing.
Also, the movie could have done without the constant sex dialogue, just filler for an otherwise weak movie.
Overall, I would give this movie a 7/10 for trying. Like I said the movie was good but the ending was weak.

So I guess you wanted it to end with Alyssa crying and hitting Holden on the chest saying "I hate you, I hate you" while doing a crying laugh. Then he then realizes his mistake and says "I"m sorry, I love you." "It was a mistake and I realize that you are what I want and I don't care about your past." Then they kiss and he holds her and closes his eyes. Then Banky, while watching it all says "Wow, I was wrong, what you guys have is really real." "You belong together." Then he walks out the door. Screen fades. 1 year later at a con we hear laughter. The screen pans up to all three off them at a booth while they are signing the Chasing Amy comic that they all three made. Then Banky makes a bad joke and they all laugh. Third Eye Blind - Semi-Charmed Life starts playing as the screen slowly zooms up and away?

This is a real human ending. People do act like Holden. They find out things and it eats at them and can't let it go. People do things like that in real life. If you want a happy ending you can watch Mallrats.

Yes, I agree real life ends this way as people act stupid, but the ending was still approached extremely poorly. NO one, in the whole world, would be that stupid to suggest a three way to fix a relationship. oh wait, I guess you are the only one.

I don't need to be insulted ma'am

reply

No insult needed, you rated Antman and Godzilla and Fear the Walking Dead 10 out of 10, you insulted yourself girl.

reply

I rate most things 1 or 10

Oh yeah, and I did see Mallrats and it was a million times better than Chasing Amy.

reply

Mallrats is one of my favorite movies and can't wait until part 2 comes out.
Sorry if I made you mad or offended you. It's the internet and I can be a smart mouth on posts. I should always mention that others opinions on movies is their opinions and no one is wrong on how they interpret movies.
I mean you have Ash as your avatar so you have good taste.

reply

Yes, we all have our own tastes. Obviously, what is evident is we are both movie lovers so that is all that is to it.

reply

Heard it's not happening anymore. Gonna be a TV Series. Either way, I agree, Mallrats is underrated. Chasing Amy is the better all around film though. The Screenplay is unbelievable.

reply

Just watched this movie last night for the first time and I thought the 3-way situation at the end was a little absurd and not really a believable situation.

reply

Cinematic Liberties are allowed when a film is as clever as this. The emotions allow a sense of "Just maybe this would happen" and I'm pretty sure it happened in real life to Joey Lauren Adams. I know this was somewhat a Semi-Biography of Smith and Adams relationship.

reply

Actually Banky is a latent homosexual. He ends up with Hooper X.

reply

I really enjoyed the ending actually!

I believe both Banky and Holden were bisexual (but never acted upon their gay feelings).

So for both of them, this threesome isn't that absurd.

And regarding Holden pushing away Alyssa, this happens in real life more often that you think! Just imagine for a second, your girlfriend who are seriously in love with and whose past you think you know completely, suddenly reveals that she has had threesomes and slept with many guys in the past (for e.g. 36 people, like they say in clerks). This can come off as a shocker to many people (just to clarify, I am completely fine with this). In fact I would say most of the men wouldn't be comfortable with this. An average person has less than 10 partners in their lifetime, and has never had a threesome.

reply

I agree. Overall the film had some good moments but fell apart at the last 20 minutes or so. Ending it after Silent Bob's speech would have been better than what we got.

reply

It was a pretty silly device so that Alyssa would finally be pushed to the limit and walk out on him, and not just walk out but leave his life altogether it seems. It would have been more interesting if they had of dealt with the issues in a more complex manner.

Sometimes a movie or tv show plot is so stupid that only the stupid can understand it.
