Sequel to In the Name of the Father?

Ok, so I know that this isn't actually a sequel, but did any one else think that it partly felt like a sequel? Same actor and same director to start with. Same country. In the Name of the Father ends with him getting out of gaol, Boxer starts from there. I know they were sent to prison for very different reasons, but I just got the feeling that there was a touch of unofficial sequel-ness about this picture. Thoughts?

It's my understanding that Jim Sheridan had three interconnecting, but not sequential, stories to tell. In the Name of the Father, Some Mother's Son, then The Boxer. Much later, of course, came In America. I love these movies!

So if someone wanted to study Daniel Day-Lewis, I plan on getting In the Name of the Father(seen the movie before but need to watch it again with subtitles) and I already have MLF, GONY, and TWBB. So since the characters as u said are opposite would you recommend getting this movie as well?

Not so much a sequel but more the final part in the "Trilogy" from this fine pair of Director Jim Sheridan and Actor Daniel day Lewis to follow on from the outstanding "My Left Foot" and equally impressive "In The Name Of The Father" The poor cousin to the two aforementioned but then it was always going to be hard to follow up again. Would still recommend it though for a viewing in reply to another on this thread.

There is the IRA connections in both movies.
