Dirk would've got his ass kicked...

By Jack at the pool scene. I wonder in the scenes where Jack's temper boils over, if we're not getting a true glimpse of the real world Burt Reynolds. He just comes off as a guy not to *beep* with in any way. A very intimating actor when he needs to be. Too bad he made so many cheesy, B movies- he's not a bad actor when given a decent role.

For real. He's totally got that old man strength, even though he's not massively built. Dirk was so strung out at this point that he probably couldn't even land a single shot.

I read a great oral history of boogie nights on grantland.com a couple years ago. Burt Reynolds performance was coaxed out of him by PT Andrson by making him feel less important than he was. Burt expected everyone to kiss his ass but Anderson didn't do that. For that scene Burt did have a lot of anger and resentment toward wahlberg and it showed. The thing that always bothered me though was after the film was made, Burt trashed it and bad mouthed it to everyone. He insulted Anderson as a know nothing hack, until award season came around and it got all kinds of nominations including BSA for Burt. He really should have won that year over Robin Williams for Good Will Hunting. I think he just ricked off so many voters they didn't vote for him out of spite
