Cocaine OD -- does your nose really fall out?

This is depicted once and suggested another time in Boogie Nights: I'm just wondering, when you OD on Cocaine, do you really start to bleed profusely from your nose? And why?

Also, does this happen when the coke is too pure, or too degraded? The guy says something like "This is the second time this has happened to me this week" to which the other guy replies "Have you thought about yadda yadda changing it?" (i. e. cutting it?).

Only those who extensively did coke in the Eighties need reply, thank you.

PS: I'm kidding. The Seventies will do just as well.

I've done my fair share of coke over the years although I prefer to inject it for many reasons . The nose bleeds can happen even when you're overdosing . The powder goes up your nose and is absorbed in the mucas membrane in the nostrils and into your blood steam . Any drug that's snorted that's a harsh chemical can make it bleed as the membrane is soft and not made for chemicals to touch it . The od is usually more dangerous as it's a brain hemorage or heart attack ( coke makes heart pound very fast ) so there aren't antidotes for cocaine . Heroin is a lot safer as you you can be reversed with narcan . The seizures are very common too . Sometimes it's the person , other times the drug but mostly and combination .

Never done coke but have worked with a lot of drug addicts in recovery. Yes, this does happens and it's not at all uncommon. There are a lot of blood vessels in the nose and surrounding area and so bleeding can be profuse like was shown here. Some people actually end up with a a hole in the septum between the nostrils from the abuse it takes when snorting drugs.
