Like it or not..
For those of us who remember the original Blues Brothers, this movie would have to be considered a serious letdown for a sequel. I liked it however. My reasoning is simple, and while I can understand why everyone seems to not like it, it is a movie that is made almost twenty years after the original, and it was made for a different type of audience. It is an easy movie to watch actually, and this is only true if you haven't seen the first. There wasn't very much to tie it to the first, so you could watch the movie without having seen the original, and understand what it was about. I realized this by watching it with some of my extended family and they were having a blast everytime some famous blues singer interacted and a song was being sung, they were getting into the movie too. Only one of them besides myself had seen the first one. They thought the singing was great, and they found the humor funny. Some sequels should never be made and this sequel is debatable, but it seems the main group of people I find that do like it have oddly enough, never seen the original, and when I asked some of my family if they would like to see the original, I get asked, "when did it come out, I've never heard of it before" and I say 1980. I'm quickly then told that they have no interest in seeing an old comedy because it probably wouldn't be as good as the one they just saw and I simply hang my head and tell them the second Blues isn't nearly as great as the first. It hit me how obvious the comedy generation gap really is (I find alot of people that like BB2k and have no idea who John Belushi was) and that people find humor from the old school days, not very funny anymore. I personally liked the different musicians appearing but that was about it. My family thinks I'm nuts for not liking it and all I can tell them is watch the original.
