THE MUSIC!!

This movie was more about the music than it was about anything else. It may not have the greatest story but I still watch it almost everytime its on tv just to hear the wonderful music.

Amen, J! After a month where "Date Movie", ”When a Stranger Calls”, and Steve Martin's "Pink Panther" are box-office champions (proving once again it is impossible to make a movie too bad and too tasteless for the American public, as long as the ad budget is big enough) "BB 2000" suddenly begins to look close to "Singin’ in the Rain".
And to all those who keep comparing this to the original “Blues Brothers”: Go take a look at that again. That is never going to win any prize for screenwriting, and no-body cared then or now. It was hardly the point, then or now. How many noticed the story line in any Astaire and Rogers musical? (Are all these comparisons too arcane?)
This sequel easily equals the first for music, and it’s not greatly surpassed by many. Sure the acting is...well, spotty. Most of these people are musicians, not actors. And anyone who has time to really worry about the storyline must be pitifully tone-deaf, and he or she has my deepest sympathy, they’re missing a lot. Could the problem be that this has no bubble-gum pop or gansta rap?

Okay, there was absolutely no story to it. In the first movie, the purpose of getting the band back together was to raise enough money to save the orphanage they were raised in. In this movie, Elwood wants to put the band back together just for the hell of it. Regardless, I still enjoy watching the movie just because the music is great. The scene at the fair where they sing "Ghost riders in the sky" where the skeleton horses and cowboys go riding past was completely pointless, but the song itself is cool. My wife bought this movie on dvd, and I had no objections simply because the music in this film is definitely worth it.

The point to Elwood's putting the band back together is not "just for the hell of it," he does it for his brother and his memory. The original Blue Brothers movie came out before I was born, but its still one of my favorite movies of all time, and is THE only "Musical" that I like. Blues Brothers 2000 is great for its music too, and for its desire to just be a fun movie. I don't think anyone can say they watched a movie starring so many musicians (more musicians than real actors, more so than the first one) and expected an award-winning acting performance from any of the actors. I agree with the other poster who said that this movie is great for the music and for the fun. I can't help but be happy and smile whenever I watch either of the Blues Brothers movies, its what they're all about. Sure, the scene with the skeleton riders is corny and unnecessary, but can you honestly say that it doesn't make you smile, laugh, or snicker (even if in disbelief) each time you see it? I love this movie, its such a "feel good" film.

I agree with all of you. It's all about the music and I love both films. That's why I have copies of both plus both soundtracks.

I don't think I've ever seen it from the beginning, but I remember when I saw the end and just about spazzed. So much awesome in one movie music-wise.

In the end, the music makes it so worth it.

I wholeheartedly agree, this film has an amazing soundtrack.

An old roommate of mine made an arguement that the Blues Brothers is a story that shows how music completes ones soul. In the first movie, while in jail, everything is very bland. You can get the feeling the 3 years Elwood spent in the joint were very long and boring. The BB decide to put the band back together again while in church, listening to a Gospel. Only while they are playing their music are they able to elude everybody. They were on a mission from g-d, and their mission was to play music. After getting out of jail, Jake, after spending 20 years in the joint, wants to find music again, and thus his soul. That's about as complex as it needs to get.

The sequal was just like the story of a Bluesman. They always fall on tough times, new problems always seem to be similar to the previous problems, but they keep going on and playing about it. The story was very weak, but you can't exactly be on a mission to save an orphange again, so you are on a mission to save an orphan. You can't add much more diversity to such a simple charactor, but you can add a lot more to his music over time, which is what happens to bluesmen who keep going through tough times.

It was a true sequel about a blues musician. Same old story, but the music gets better with time.

My fiance and I love EVERYTHING about this movie, its so great all the musical numbers and car chases. My little sister, who is 6, LOVES both blues brothers films because of the music and the insane car chases, she doesnt even know what a storyline is, and thats all that matters. Blues Brothers = amazing music, with amazing car chases.
