I get the feeling that there were a lot of deleted/alternate scenes. Taj must have been in one of them.

He's singing the a capella version of John the Revelator during the opening credits. Based on his appearance in the ending credits, he was supposed to be working with BB King in the used cars dealership, but the scene must have been cut out.
