Why no Jim Belushi?

Does anyone know for sure why Jim Belushi isn't in this movie, after training for it and playing in Blues Brothers concerts? One page on the Internet says he willingly passed on it for a TV series, another page says he insists he could have done both the series and the movie but the studio cold-shouldered him.

Belushi died in 1982. This movie was made in 1998. Simple as that.

JOHN Belushi died in 1982. JIM belushi did not.

plus, Jim and John are not very alike. I dislike Jim Belushi and his acting, yet I *love* everything John did...

reply

Jim wasn't even in the original Blue Brothers.

moron

reply

Because, unlike his brother (or John Goodman), he can't act and isn't amusing?

well, i for one, loved john goodman in this movie....while he did not do all the physical stuff that belushi did in the first one......(cab does that at the revival meeting), i think goodman is a fine actor and a great singer...i believe john landis and dan ackroyd made the right decision to use goodman.

I don't know much about Jim Belushi, though I will admit they look alike. I didn't like John Goodman much in BB2000. I don't mind that he didn't do the physical stuff (neither did Belushi, it was a double) but I thought his character was pretty thin (not literally of course.) He was just very flat and dull. I thought the only really good, funny bit he did was when he was pretending to be scared: running around screaming and then stopping to pick up his cheeseburger, shoving it into his mouth and then continuing to scream. That was funny.

i really wished that Jim Belushi, filled John belushi's role

the next idiot that says Jim Belushi is dead gets b!tch slapped for being so dimmwitted and stupid

Jim filling the role would have made a much nicer and neater story,

Jim and John Belushi sorta look alike sound similar but their persoinalitys dont match ?
who cares
they look he could have nicely passed as "Joliet Jake's" brother

there we much neater plot then John Goodman entrance

"I think John looks a lot like Jim but they don't have the same personality but just to come think of it, it would be neat having Jim Belushi in The Blues Brothers."

That's gotta be the stupidiest comment I ever heard. Ofcourse John looks a lot like Jim, they were brothers! DUHHHHHH

AT LAST.Someone has actualy seen te truth!!!!!

John Belushi did not do handsprings.
It's all gonna be alright!

they new how bad the script was, they didn't want to make things worse by putting in a B grade actor.

the original script had a character written for Jim Belushi-he was to play Adam Semaris, who had the same mother as Jake. Adam was going to be the policeman who pursued the band then finally joined them.

Jim Belushi had TV obligations at the time, so the storyline was changed, the cop character was now Joe Morton's Cabel Chamberlain, whose connection to the family was that he was Curtis' son. John Goodman's character was pulled into the band after Elwood thought Chamberlain would not take the job. I believe he was written in so there could be a stand-n for Jake, making the band "look right". I think Goodman played his character perfectly, the character was honored to be a part of the band and never tried to steal the show. Goodman obviously respected John Belushi's work.

John Goodman and Dan Ackroyd have even done some SNL appearances as Elwood and Mack. One was during the anthrax-in-the-mail scare, and they sung a rendition of "please mr. postman", and Elwood gave one of his lengthy, fast-paced speeches, against the taliban and telling us not to stereotype muslims in general. It was similar to his speech on the Russians in BB2000.

It would have been great to see Jim Belushi as a nice tribute to John. It would only be right. Id seen Jim onstage with Dan at the season finale of 2002 SNL ep. They did a 60s oldie with the band that sounded great. Neither one of them can sing but they looked cool onstage together in sharkskin suits. They called themselves the "Dancing Refrigerators". This movie needed all the help it could get. It totally sucked.

good god, the only thing that mightve saved this horrible atrocity was John Belushi, and we waved bye bye to that a long time ago, god rest his soul. the fact of the matter is, this movie, if you can even call it that, should never have been made! i have no problem with Dan Akroyd or John Goodman, but all this horsesh*t about...ugh, dare i say it...Jim Belushi(shudders) makes no sense. he is a horrible actor, no, he isnt even an actor, hes just a John Belushi impersonator. GOD...I HATE THAT MAN, he isnt even funny. why he even thought in the first place that he should get into acting i dont know, but he made a huge mistake.

to re-cap, Jim Belushi himself is a screw-up, this movie should never have been made without John Belushi, its 106 miles to chicago...we have a full tank of gas...a half pack of ciggarettes...its dark...and we're wearing sunglasses, this is all coming from a huge JOHN, underlined JOHN, Belushi fan who loves the Blues Brothers, and this movie was and is a travesty.

mwahahaha, this is it, my chance to make my very own, personal signature....now, what to say...

The film was originally intended to include Brother Zee Blues played by James Belushi. But due to an already existing television deal. Belushi had been cast in the ABC drama "Total Security". Belushi was unable to appear and the script was altered to include Cab Blues played by Joe Morton. This character was named Cabel as an homage to Cab Calloway, who died four years prior to the film's release. His character Curtis was revealed to have died in the film along with Jake.
