It's called 'Blues Brothers 2000'...

...despite the fact that it was released in 1998.

true... Stanley Kubrick filmed 2001 in the 60's. Go figure.

Yes, but 2001 was a science fiction film set in what was then the future. Blues Brothers 2000 was not a science fiction film, and I don't remember it being implied that it was the future.

Erm... good point, bro

The '2000' in the title, I believe, denotes a new phase in the life of the Blues Brothers (well, for Elwood, at least, what with Jake insisting on remaining dead).

Mystery Science Theater 3000 takes place "in the not too distant future: next Sunday A.D."

That's because that's how much money it made the one week it was shown in theaters.

Funny, when I first heard this sequel was called The Blues Brothers 2000, I thought it came out in 2000, not 1998. Weird how it was like that two years before the actual year 2000 came to be.

reply

Why wasn't it called "Blues Brothers 1998" ?

reply

It was sort of a trend back in the 80's and 90's to put '2000' or '3000' or any number higher than 100. I think it was to try and make it sound cool or futuristic.

I watched it in 2000, so it made sense to me :D

I watched it in 2014...

"2000" didn't refer to the year. That was the number of automobiles that were destroyed in the making of the film.
