It's called 'Blues Brothers 2000'...
...despite the fact that it was released in 1998.

true... Stanley Kubrick filmed 2001 in the 60's. Go figure.
shareYes, but 2001 was a science fiction film set in what was then the future. Blues Brothers 2000 was not a science fiction film, and I don't remember it being implied that it was the future.

Erm... good point, bro
shareThe '2000' in the title, I believe, denotes a new phase in the life of the Blues Brothers (well, for Elwood, at least, what with Jake insisting on remaining dead).
shareMystery Science Theater 3000 takes place "in the not too distant future: next Sunday A.D."
Kara Thrace will lead the human race to its end.
Why wasn't it called "Blues Brothers 1998" ?
shareIt was sort of a trend back in the 80's and 90's to put '2000' or '3000' or any number higher than 100. I think it was to try and make it sound cool or futuristic.
share"2000" didn't refer to the year. That was the number of automobiles that were destroyed in the making of the film.
