The One Redeeming Factor

I agree that this movie does not come close to living up to the original, but you have to admit that the ending when all the different singers, guitar players, etc. get together is pretty sweet. The music was great.

I'll expand on that and add that the real redeeming factor of this movie, just as with the original, is that the people involved in making it clearly love and respect the music. The whole "Blues Brothers" thing could easily have been played as a gimmick, but there's no questioning the sincere affection everyone, from the behind-the-scenes producers to the actors to the special guests all feel for great American music. That's what lifted the original from yet another slapstick SNL comedy skit brought to the big screen to a great movie in its own right...and if the sequel doesn't have the sheer energy and fun of the original, it nevertheless has the same understanding of the importance of the music itself.

Good music, and not just in the sense that it was good tribute, there were some great performances. And those strippers were bomb, bomb, bomb!!!

no offense.

I would actually put this soundtrack above the original. It's by far the best part of the movie.

I was actually going to post something similar. I think I enjoyed this movie more than most. I do not consider it a bad movie, although it comes nowhere close to the original.

I keep hearing people say it is one of the worse sequels ever. I bet I could think of 20 or more worse sequels than this one.

But the main thing that struck me on this board is no one was talking about the music. The music is great, not just good but GREAT!

Musically this movie matches and even surpasses the original. There is not a weak number in the entire soundtrack and to me the scene with the Louisiana Gator Boys by itself makes this move worth the price of admission.

Agreed the music was amazing. Elwood's motivational speech to the band was so prophetic it gave me chills.

I just saw them both for the first time, and I agree that the music was the only thing the sequel really had going for it.

I don't think I'd call the soundtrack better, if only because the car chase theme song is much faster and more lively (and ultimately better) in the original.

The music sequences after "Funky Nassau" were very good. The others were awful
