in the movie jake is not in the movie. i know John belushi is dead and stuff but whats the explanation for jakes dissaperance

shareYeah, that's basically it, Elwood was in prison, and for a long time believed Jake was out and waiting for him. A sad scene plays when Elwood is released; he waits outside the prison for his brother for what I assume is several days before a guard finally comes out and says Jake was dead. Apparently Jake was dead for a while and no one ever told Elwood until he got out of prison. Poor Elwood.

It's called bad movie writing. That's why it only has a 4.3 rating while the original has 7.8.
I watched the first 20 minutes and eventually turned it off. I was going to force myself to watch the whole thing, but it was so bad I didn't want to put myself through that.
I was disapointed that they didn't even show a picture of him when Cab did the background check.
When I first saw this, I hated it. But after a couple more viewings, I've grown to like this more and more because of the music!

Could be because Elwood was the driver. They always get it worse. Or it could be that, Jake was in jail when he died. And, before someone says that, at the end of the original, they were all in the same jail, there's nothing to say that Jake wasn't relocated before he died.

shareI agree, Jake was let out for Cab Calloway's funeral, they wouldn't let out both brothers at once, and needed some place to crash. He hooked up with his former fiance and when he didn't check in they went to her place and saw it was a crime of passion. A double murder, both were holding weapons that had been discharged atleast 5 times each. They did however find a wedding ring known to have been on Jake's person on her finger as an engagement ring, and what appeared to be a marriage license officiated by Cab Calloway's charector who it turns out was also a ordained minister..
