Contrary to what is sung in this song, New Orleans is NOT in Mississippi..

That's "Down THE Mississippi, down to New Orleans." It says nothing about N.O. being in Mississippi.

Uh, doesn't the Mississippi River runs right past the city of New Orleans? Just asking, seeing I rode the Natchez guided tour straight down th ol' Miss. SMH. Great city. Visit it some time!

More like it runs right through the city of New Orleans. New Orleans is the port city of the Mississippi river. That's why there's such a big city there.

I forgot the area across the river at Algiers Point and the Naval Base.
