Beverly Hills Ninja 2, a sequel to the 1997 action comedy starring Chris Farley, will film in South Korea starting next month, making it the first mainstream Hollywood movie to do so.

According to Variety, local company ATM Motionwide said production will begin Oct. 6 on Jeju island before shifting to two lots at the Busan Film Studio.

Sony Pictures Entertainment holds North American distribution rights.

Mitch Klebanoff, a writer and co-producer of the original film, has scripted and will direct the sequel. The story involves an orphaned boy who wants to be a ninja but becomes involved in a crime in Hollywood while looking for his real parents.

David Hasselhoff, Lucas Grabeel ("High School Musical") and Taiwanese model-turned-actress Lin Chiling (Red Cliff) are set to star in the sequel.

70% of the film will shoot in South Korea, with 30% in the U.S. The project is scheduled to wrap its Korean shoot on Nov. 20 and continue Stateside until the end of December. Sony is eyeing a May release date in U.S. and June in South Korea.

This one is a head scratcher to me. The original only squeaked out a profit in post-theater sales/rental. It was generally disliked, but for those who liked BHN it will generally be remembered as a Farley movie. And it's ten years outdated.

Of all the past comedy flicks starring now dead lead actors, why this one? Even among the Farley flicks, why this one? Could they not get the rights to Tommy Boy?

ARE YOU KIDDING ME!?!?
the only reason they should be doing a sequel is if chris farley was alive and he was in it....even tho he hated the movie...but still

I'm also confused. South Korea? Is this supposed to be a comedy or what's happening now?

DAVID “Baywatch” Hasselholf and gorgeous Taiwanese model-actress Lin Chiling are in the cast of Beverly Hills Ninja 2, a sequel to the forgettable 1997 action comedy starring Chris Farley. Filming started in South Korea last Oct 6 on Jeju island.

Its director is Mitchell Klebanoff, who wrote and co-produced the original film.

The story involves an orphan who dreams of becoming a ninja but gets involved in a crime in Hollywood while looking for his parents.

More than three-quarters of the film will be shot in South Korea and the rest in the United States.

Funny...

I was with my wife in Itaewon (Seoul), doing some shopping back in Sept 08, when I was approached by a man asking if I would do some fighting scenes for this film. He didnt know me from Adam and probably just needed some more white guy cannon fodder. I wasn't going to be in Korea long, so I declined. To be honest, I thought it was a joke when he asked me until I came across this thread. I know nothing about acting or even getting my a$$ kicked on film, but I think it would've been an interesting experience to say the least.

I don´t know if it´s a direct sequel.. The movie is called "The legend of the dancing ninja". So maybe it´s just very much inspired by BHN..

I always thought there should be a sequel with Chris Rock as the "ninja".

Are you f#cking kidding me? Chris Farley is what made the first one hilarious. Without him it will probably be a failure

They should bring Will Sasso back, but this time have him be the main character in place of Farley.
