this movie was a hit???

it has an adjusted box office gross of 125m. For comparison that is about how much a movie like Kingsman the Secret Service made in 2015. I always assumed this was a bomb.

reply

Well, it cost $45 million and it grossed $66 million domestically. Not a bomb but not a hit either. For the record, I consider the worldwide grosses, but a lot of people (mainly studios) focus more on the domestic grosses.

reply

Why would a studio focus more on domestic grosses? Studios like making money abroad just as much as they do domestically. In fact, major studios strive to make films that will do well outside the US because they know this translates into great profits, which is also why movie premieres are increasingly taking place outside the US.

reply

If a movie is a domestic flop but a worldwide hit, studios will talk about it as an overall hit. Like you said, they do care about money. However, they would still cancel planned sequels. They know that critics and fans' opinions can have an impact on box office sales, so they think that a sequel could flop worldwide. Not to mention where the bar is set. A movie can gross twice its budget during the 1st week. Studios also care about the predictions they make. When they don't come true, they consider the movie a dissapointment. Finally, a lot of blockbusters are released all over the world during the same week, but not all of them. Studios don't always want to wait until it's released outside of the U.S. because: A) They want the profit A.S.A.P. B) Until then, people will talk about the movie as a flop, which might encourage other people to not see it.

That's probably the weirdest and most irrelevant gibberish I've ever read on IMDB haha. You can write entire paragraphs without making any point. This is what it's like reading your posts: People watch movies. They sit in seats when they watch movies and sometimes they purchase snacks. I like M&M's. I'm not saying M&M's are the greatest candy ever because some people don't like them but I do. Their slogan was once 'melts in your mouth, not in your hand' but they don't use it anymore. Movie goers also like popcorn...

I mean no offense with my mockery though. Just joshin' with ya :)

this movie was definitely a financial success. box office returns vs budgets worked differently in the 90's. thus, why it recieved a theatrical sequel.

By 2022 standards it made $249 million worldwide.

It was a popular film back in the day, was on T.V all the time.
