Was Sylk's character based on Vanity or Apollonia?

I actually rented this on VHS yrs back!!!!! Sorry CM this was before i knew about you!!!!

liked the end part of the movie when she finds her mother & she is living on a farm(?) & that house looked real familiar i think it was missing the wheelchair ramp that it had in the movie that i saw it in, this movie also had a storyline that included thanksgiving&Xmas.....

my 1st barracks rm mate(she was a redbone&she could sing) was CRAZY about M. & i remember her saying to me you gotta listen to her(M.) she is so good & she ofcourse drove me CRAZY by playing the debut almost every morning!!!!

I don't know if Sylk was based on a real singer. It is interesting that you suggested Vanity or Apollonia. Neither one of them was a great singer. Vanity was supposed to co-star in "Purple Rain" with Prince. But after Vanity and Prince split up the role went to Apollonia. Mariah started her career singing backup for Brenda K. Starr, but she can sing.

One of my friends mocked "Glitter" and compared it derisively to "Purple Rain". She said Mariah should have been called "The Kid" like Prince was in "Purple Rain". Mariah did co-write a song with Prince for "Glitter", but it did not make the soundtrack.

My thoughts exactly. I say it everytime, a combo of the 2 girls.
