John Ford reference?
In 8 HEADS IN A DUFFEL BAG, the male and female leads (who are about to get married) are named Charlie Pritchard and Laurie Bennett.
In John Ford's THE SEARCHERS (made 41 years earlier), there is a comic subplot toward the end involving soon-to-be newlyweds (and relatively minor characters) Charlie McCorry and Laurie Jorgensen). There's a similar mixture of comedy and drama with the wedding being disrupted by the sudden reappearance of a man Laurie had once loved and assumed was dead, and a brawl breaking out between Charlie and the presumed-dead guy.
Were the creators of 8 HEADS IN A DUFFEL BAG aware of this? I'd actually be very surprised if they weren't, since THE SEARCHERS is one of the most famous films in American history, and in fact is considered by many to be the greatest Western ever. (Plus, any movie that spoofed the song "Mr. Sandman" could never be accused of being ignorant of 1950s popular culture.)
