What is in the box Garfield gives to Ellen in his apartment? Is it mice? If so - why?

I saw this on TV so i thought that maybe they had edited that bit, cos it just didnt seem to fit for me.

Anybody enlightn me?

I'm not exactly sure what was in the box, but the dvd it doesn't show, so it wasn't edited from tv. Not sure......

it was a mouse. in the starz version (if it was changed at all), you can hear a mouse making noise, i dotn know what you call it, squeeking?

I think it was the mouse snow ball and he did it to kind of break the ice in his apartment.

This was one of the things in the movie that was actually incomplete. In the commentary with the writer, director, Samuel Jackson, and Clifton Collins jr, the director says that they tried to think of something to put in the box, but couldn't come up with anything, so they just left it and hoped the scene would just continue to flow. I also heard some kind of squeaking, assumed it was from a mouse, but it still didn't make much sense. That is the situation, as far as I know.
