He didn't have a 1/6 chance

He had a 50/50 chance of the chamber containing the last bullet.

With two bullets in a six chamber revolver the chances are 1/3 of being killed on any given chance. After Garfield is killed, the next chamber will either be empty or contain the last bullet. The only way he could change his chances were if he were to spin the revolver before he pulled the trigger after Garfield had just done so, but he did not.

Actually he did spin the reel, it can be heard while they exchange those 2 sentences in spanish. That means he had 1/6 chance. Since he was adding bullets to the chambers, he knew the distance between those two bullets. So wihtout spinning he could have 0% (bullets not next to each other) or 50% (bullets next to each other, but we don't know which one went into teacher's head). His pride was all he got, as he stated few seconds earlier. That's why he spinned and took the shot.
