...leave the rat there at the school!! I wouldn't leave a living thing at any high school, least of all if I had students who were dangerous!
Garfield was such an ass in so many ways. He made the school his entire life, he had NO other life.
It was great he cared and tried to help them, but he should have just quit and gone to work at a different school.
And gotten some psychiatric help.

I would think he could teach in a private school, which would possibly be less stressful.

i think that's why he chose to be a substitue teacher, dont stay around long enough in one place to cause beef with the students.

If you had the academic knowledge to teach science, would you teach in an elementary school?
Like he said, nothing matter more to him than teaching, no matter what.
He had NO life other than that because that is what he wanted.
Everybody has a passion and certain talents.Put them to good use to be happy in life.

Or teach in the MidWest some place to gather experience if the crime situation portrayed in the movie got as bad as it did.

I agree, I would gladly teach in an elementary school. What's wrong with that?
There's no *plus* to teaching high school kids rather than younger ones.

I wondered why he moved to California to begin with. Didn't he teach in New York when he got attacked? Why move to California anyway? Like the above poster said, surely the Midwest would be a better possibly calmer teaching choice.

Yes it was a rat but it was obviously a living thing that Trevor wanted to be safe.
I wouldn't leave an ant farm around a bunch of teens, never mind a rat.
