Horror Without Horror
Stephen King is a book author. He is clearly NOT a filmmaker, as he has so clearly proved. So, he should not even worry about the movies and TV movies made from his books. He got the checks. He signed the contracts with zero conditions. So, you get what you get.
Kubrick's "The Shining" is the greatest horror movie ever made. And it is because Kubrick got horror right, which is rare. The slow, creeping dread that builds over the movie draws you in until you feel that you are trapped in that hotel with Wendy and Danny. Then, everything comes unglued, which is terrifying.
The TV version is close to inert. There are no actual scares, there is no atmosphere, there is no dread. Just TV actors trying to make their way through a directionless production.
