Who Was theAngel that Sang 'Gary Owen'

This was the first time I heard the lyrics to this old ballad made popular by G. A. Custer among others. This woman singing it in this film was just this side of heaven.

In the commentary John Milius says that the role is played by his wife. So I believe it would be Elan Oberon who is strangely not credited on IMDB.

I'm about 99% sure that the voice was not that of the actress. I used to have a cassette tape called "Songs of the 7th Cavalry", which featured that exact performance of the song.
