shareThe explosion was actually footage from the end of the Lee Marvin movie Shout at the Devil in which a World War I German warship is blown up in a harbor in Africa. It was converted to sepia-tone and made grainy and streaky to look like a turn-of-the century newsreel. I saw Rough Riders long before I saw Shout at the Devil, and recognized the footage in Shout at the Devil immediately when I saw it.
