Poof....I'm a Lawyer...

When Rebecca announced, I'm an Attorney...Suprise...LOL...Jumping the shark indeed...I lost ANY respect I'd had for the Series when this happened!

It wasn't "Poof, I'm a lawyer" at all. Rebecca had been going to law school at night for five years, which is entirely realistic for the TV audience because:

(1) We hadn't been given any insight into her life outside of the firm, so it's not as if we knew she had an active social life and couldn't have been going to school at the same time. There was nothing shown to us that could make us say, "No way, she hasn't been going to school all this time."

(2) The fact that it took her five years instead of the usual three years makes sense, because she couldn't be a full-time student while holding down a full-time job.

(3) They gave a realistic depiction of her struggling at times as a brand-new lawyer, but the fact that she was pretty good right off the bat makes sense considering she'd been working with Bobby and the others for so long. It was basically like interning at a firm full of talented lawyers; you're going to learn a lot of things you don't learn in law school.

It led to good storylines, but that moment when she got her letter of acceptance to the bar---well it was pretty groan-inducing.

It may have paid off, but it was pretty cheesy. And strained believability. (A law student who is never seen with a textbook by her small-office co-workers in five years...a law student who never asks a lawyer she works with for help or advice...right....)

I see what you mean, but it's still plausible. Rebecca said she didn't want any of them to know she was in law school because she'd be embarrassed if she failed, which would explain why she didn't directly ask for advice or leave her books out.

You have to assume she picked up some knowledge just from being around the firm's lawyers. Plus it's very believable that Bobby, Eugene, Eleanor and Lindsey were so wrapped up in their own worlds that even if Rebecca was asking questions regularly, they wouldn't put two and two together. And if she did accidentally leave a book or two around, maybe it wouldn't be noticed because they are in a law office with a ton of books laying around.
