So little humour in the newer episides

I have always watched Midsomer Murders on the Austrian and German television. At the moment both newer episodes with Neil Dudgeon and Gwylim Lee as DS Nelson are broadcasted as well as older ones with John Nettles alias Tom Barnaby.

It is not just that I like Nettles much better than Dudgeon and think that Nelson is the most boring sidekick. One of the reasons why I liked Midsomer Murders in the past was that the series had so much humour. Sometimes I was a bit disappointed by the solution of the "whodunnit"-question but still liked the show because of the way English country life and its characters were presented. I am really missing this kind of humour in the newer episodes.

I agree - I'm re-watching some of the Nettles episodes and the interplay between Tom Barnaby & Jones was a delight.

It seemed to disappear when Neil Dudgeon stepped in - he never clicked with Jones and none of the subsequent Sergeants have managed it either.

I agree, the stories are no longer interesting since Series 18. All feel so boring and silly, it seems the writers just get tired of making the story interesting. Just watched Red in Tooth & Claw, I think it's a far more interesting story compring to all previous lame and uninspiring works.
