I watched it, I don't 'get' it..

Maybe there's something I don't get. I took me multiple 'viewings' of 'The Office' to fully appreciate its sometimes surprisingly clever and smart humor and all.

I watched this show, but I don't understand what people see in it. The reason I watched almost all episodes (I skipped some of the WAY too numerous 'sports' episodes), was that I was hoping there would be an episode that would make some kind of sense as to why people like this show, there might be some kind of episode where things would 'click' and I would get it.

I was hoping this show might grow on me. Something.

But I don't get it..

The artwork is dull and unimaginative, compared to almost any cartoon TV show I have watched previously (though I am aware there are really disgusting-looking cartoons, I don't watch those). Whereas other shows have distinct personality, where you recognize them from almost any random still shot, you absolutely can't recognize this one without the main characters or a 'familiar location' in the shot.

There are other shows, where the artwork is a bit bland in general - 'Family Guy' comes to mind, as its art is competent, but ultimately not very interesting to look at if it's some random street or location without the main characters - but which manages to still give you quirky and interesting shots that keep you watching.

KotH (not KOTH, as you don't capitalize the 'of' or the 'the') doesn't really do anything for you. It gives you a dull setting, dull characters doing dull things, then 'something goes wrong' and Hank fixes it. Then you never hear of it again, but the same formula repeats over and over.

Now, it's not a repulsive show, it's not something to shy away from, there's nothing -basically- wrong with it, but at the same time, it's hard to believe it came from the same pen as 'Office Space' and 'Idiocracy', both of which are brilliant satires (or something) and poignant stories about how insane the world we live in is with its horrible corporate 'culture' that oppresses us all every day.

This show expects us to be astonished and feel related to some propane salesman threatning to beat up some teen (and never does it).

What am I missing here? I wasn't expecting much, remembering this show to be boring, but even with the more entertaining episodes, nothing much is said, nothing is learned, everything gets fixed by the end, so the next episode can happen. The stories don't amount to much, either. Beyond a visit to Japan and some Mexico-oriented shenanigans, we don't really travel much beyond a narrow-minded Texan suburb.

Sometimes the show seems to try to poke fun of the crazy modern 'trends' and such, but it does it in such a monotone, dull way, that it's hard to get invested in. I basically watched the whole thing and I don't understand why this show was made, or why it was greenlit. What is it trying to even say? People in Texas are monotone and dull? Polluting is a good thing? Murdering innocent animals and eating their bloody flesh and rotting pieces of their carcasses is normal?

I don't get whom this show was made for. Is it poking fun of Texans and conservatives, or is it celebrating them? Is it trying to show how insane and irrational people are expected to be just to fit in, or is it telling it's good that things are this way? It's not even that it's too subtle, it's more like it doesn't really take a stance.

If this show was a comic/cartoon character, it would be Charlie Brown, because of how ultimately depressing the show is, and how wishy-washy it is as well, and how it can never make up its mind about anything.

I get it that it's 'funny' to put someone conservative into a situation that's filled with the opposite energy, or how it's supposed to be funny how Boomhauer speaks very unclearly (though you can usually understand the key words if you focus), but those jokes get old really fast, and I was over the whole Boomhauer speak pattern by the third episode.

And yet it kept going.

This show seems to be created by people who are afraid to deviate from a successful formula, so they keep going the exact same way until the end. Even The Simpsons, as dull as it got over the years, tried something new every now and then. But not this show. It's same old, same old..

I guess the 'comforting' thing about this show is, you are ALWAYS going to get exactly, EXACTLY what you expect. There won't be 'surprise' episodes, it's all completely and perfectly 'safe', so you can watch ANY random episode and know what you are getting.

I can see the humor and all, but in my opinion, other shows did it better, in this show, it just falls flat.

Mike Judge created cult classics with 'Office Space' and 'Idiocracy', and those two things are shining beacons that try to awaken the masses to the horrors and stupidity of the corporate culture that's brainwashing us.

But this show.. what is it even trying to do, is not even clear. In the end, it's just 'samey' background noise and not much else.

John Redcorn never gets old.

Avortac4 is either (A) a troll trying to waste everyone's time with such idiotic comments, or (B) the stupidest person on these message boards. Look at his posts. He doesn't think anything in any film makes sense. Don't feed the troll. Don't comment after my comment.

I hear you loud and clear.

Both. That's the point. You can gently poke fun at people and situations without denigrating everything they think and believe. Hollyweird should try that again.
