My friend and I were watching the movie again the other night and I heard something I hadn't before and we both couldn't stop laughing. In the scene where the Alien lands in town, the play actors are talking about how it got there and Corky says (in his wonderfully weird voice) "It must-a flew"... LOVE IT!!
That is the best thing about Guest's comedies. You can watch them over and over and still find new things to laugh about. Reminds me of the line in Best is Show. "We can talk and talk and still find things not to talk about." I've heard that the actors have an open license on dialogue in Guest's movies. I suspect that they are allowed a lot of input but I can't buy that they make up most of their lines.
How about the scene where corky and the composer are arguing about remembering the lines and corky says:
"Well it's kind of like that zen thing, you know, like how many babies can you fit into a tire."
Or the scene where Corky tells Dr. Pearl that he cant where his glasses and Dr. Pearl says:
"Well I can see two problems with that, contrary to public opinion I don't see very well, and you see these prescribed lens' fix a very noticable lazy eye."
Probably been asked before but why do you all suppose these films don't get a wider audience? It is easily better than 90% of the comedies out there. Also, just curious to know if those of us who like Guest's films so much have a common taste in comedy. Here's some of my favorites, not in order of favorites:
MOVIES
Office Space The House of Yes Airplane Love Story (not a comedy of course but I laughed out loud through most of it) 40 Year Old Virgin Stripes The Odd Couple Sideways American Movie
TV
Seinfeld Curb Your Enthusiasm Family Guy The Simpsons All in the Family Night Court WKRP in Cincinnatti (I'm and old dude so maybe many don't know this show)
So many great moments. "We want you to live, Corky!" The Alberts' "Midnight at the Oasis" audition; The look that Brian Doyle Murray gives to Corky when Corky comes to recruit his son for the play; "Let's do 'Covered Wagons' again!" "I smell salt water." On and on and on.
If you don't find this movie funny, you have no sense of humor.
I watched this movie for the 1st time today and i laughed so hard in the play when Eugene Levys character is cross eyed and has the beard it is sooooooo funny!
People Are Always Asking Me If I Know Tyler Durden
At the end of the Penny for your thoughts song when Corky had trouble getting down to the floor in that stupid ending pose they did. Did anyone else think it was funny when Parkey Posey was cooking one chicken wing on the charcoal grill?
