I think it was yeah. Maybe the club they filmed in actually looked like that?

You can also see a painting of De Niro as Travis from the Taxi Driver, so perhaps it was just supposed to be a movie-themed club. I think one of those writings said 'Moloko' or something like that.

It absolutely was. At least I've always thought so, and I've watched this movie many times. And both Trainspotting and CO are among my all time favourite movies.

There's also a big nod to Thomas Pynchon, in the scene where Renton dives down the filthy lavatory, and then starts swimming through the curiously beautiful and spacious sewer. This scene is straight from Gravity's Rainbow or possibly V. (I read these two massive novels in a week when I was a teenager, so I sometimes confuse which book a passage/image comes from. I must re-read them both.)

Pynchon in a week would be like a marathon, especially Gravity and V being his densest books to date. But that's a neat nod I never noticed.

According to difrector Danny Boyl, The Ewan McGregor role was meant to have the charisma and drive of McDowell in Clockwork Orange, so the Korova Mill Bar nod is probably definite and intentional.

The whole movie has an ACO theme/feel to it.
