Choose Life - inspiration for the song

With T2 almost on us I'm hoping someone may be able to this...
My distinct recollection at the time of the original Trainspotting is that the 'Choose Life' track was intended to be a parody of a bank advert of the same theme (NatWest Bank I think), the point being that it was a response to the glossy commercialism and perfect lives depicted in the advert, effectively saying that real life isn't like that, it's gritty and imperfect. Despite extensive online searches I haven't found a single mention of this though - I pretty sure I didn't imagine it though, so does anyone else remember it?

I do not remember hearing that.

I just watched T2 yesterday - they explain it the sequel.

I don't think it was really explained in the original (though I might've missed it).
In T2 Renton says that there was a anti-drugs campaign "Choose life!" and that they altered it the way they did to spoof it...
