I could not finish this film because all the characters are preachy and try to come off as humorous and introspective with some deep considerations, but they are neither funny or intelligent. I think the film is trying to make a statement, but it just comes off as unfinished and ineffective.

Really? I think the point of the film would have to go pretty far over someone's head to see Begbie, Sickboy, Spud, even Renton as role models. The moral of the story was that you can't change your priorities around when you keep hanging around the same losers who are consistently going no where in life. In fact, the characters were downright repulsive. They mugged tourists, stole from retirement homes, neglected a baby until it died, and glassed people in pubs. They were scum.

My problem is that I sometimes can't finish films where I find the leading characters as provocative and idiotic as for example in Trainspotting.

Lots of films have shitty main characters, especially ones dealing with criminal behaviour, like Goodfellas. Doesn’t stop them being great films.
True, the movie's characters weren't heroes or even good people for that matter. And they weren't supposed to be.

shareI think the movie was intentionally depicting them as being egotistical. I don't think it was actually trying to frame them as being that intelligent.
shareWell when it first came out, everyone reckons how was awesome it was and when I seen it, i thought it was messy and unappealing.
