Has anyone had the shank curse before a golf tournament?

When I was 17, I had just won the junior club championship at my golf course, therefore qualifying for the state tournament of champions, which would actually be my last round as a junior. The night before, I was at a local driving range with my dad when I started to consistently hit the chili dipper. I stayed at the range for probably two hours and I kept hitting it wrong, so I just gave up and decided not to think about it. The next day, I began the round with an awful shank off the first tee into an environmental area, so I had to take a penalty and hit again from the tee. Miraculously, though, the second attempt I drilled straight down the middle of the fairway, and was able to finish the round with an 81 (at the time that was one of my better rounds). I would be glad to have that first tee shot back, but Roy's shank sequence always reminds me of that round. Anyone have anything like that?

The whole shank scene of this film is unrealistic although funny and enjoyable. No golfer skilled enough to qualify for any tournament would ever come close to hitting the ball as badly as Roy did at the range. Sometimes a golfer can have a mechanical flaw and have ball flight issues like excessive draws or pulls, or fades or slices, but would never be in the position to hit the ball off the tee that badly.

Putting yips however are a totally different thing. Although I've never had them, I've seen golfers get tight over a put and stab at a putt, or have a myriad of other putting swing issues.

It is bad to drink Jobu's rum. Very bad.

I agree the shanks scene at the range is highly exaggerated, but I think any golfer can agree that when ya shot is all of a sudden 'off' it tends to get in your head and make it even worse
