The US Hole at the end of the movie is NOT Tubac...
I have seen this movie 15 times, and played Tubac many times as well. Even some of the people at Tubac get it wrong when you ask them - the only time the Tubac golf course comes into play in the movie is early on, when Costner (as Don Johnson's caddie) plays the shot over water from the rough (at the urging of McCord and Mickelson, among others). If you have played Tubac, you know that #16 there is a par 5 with water (not huge or covering the entire front of the green) in the front right of the green, with a bunker left - watch the movie again for the Mickelson scene to refresh your memory. The US Open golf course at the end (which poster's have stated is in Texas, and is similar looking to courses in North Carolina, where I now live) has a HUGE lake in front of the entire green, with a big bunker right, and is NOT the Tubac hole; if you have ever played Tubac, tell me where all the stinkin pine trees came from; you won't find a pine forest 30 miles from Mexico. The holes don't even look the same, except for the fact that both have water in front of the green. I have a book entitled Best Golf Courses in Arizona, and the Tubac piece has the same paragraph that another guy mentioned in another thread, but it is pretty hard to camouflage small mesquite trees as pine trees, and I know they did not digitally enhance the area for the movie.
Also, just like in Texas, there is a "Tin Cup" plaque or marker in the fairway in real life at the Tubac course, but I promise you it is not the hole at the end of the movie from the US Open - it is the hole where he Costner tells Johnson not to lay up, hits the shot for a bet, and gets fired as Johnson's caddie. Just wanted to clear that up, cause I keep reading otherwise, and if you play the course and then watch the movie again, it is not even close....
