That much back spin with a 3 wood?


Roy hit a great shot on the final whole of round 4, within feet of the cup. I just don't see it having that much backspin to run back like that. With that hole setup, even a wedge layed up from the drop zone or laid up would have a tough job of staying up unless hit well pass the pin. And even at that, a shot past the pin would take some real finesse to keep from rolling off the green just like the 3 woods showt.

I don't think it was back spin. It was a sloping green. Roy was hitting it past the hole in an effort to get it to roll back down the slope close to the hole for an easy eagle. Remember, his point was to try and finish 10 under. When the final shot dropped, it was somewhat of a happy accident.
