Best cast ever - this or Heat (1995)?

Ashley Judd's a lucky lady.

Seriously....the best cast I've seen to date for a film

reply

It is an example of a cast list with a great deal of depth.

From memory the next Grisham film, The Rainmaker had a similar cast going very deep too.

reply

Neither. If these are your examples of the best cast ever assembled you haven't seen many movies.

I think Heat is a legitimate candidate. Other possbilities: Rat Race (2001), The Departed (2006), Ocean's Thirteen (2007), Jackie Brown (1997), Sin City (2005), The Avengers (2012), The Royal Tenenbaums (2001), The Faculty (1998), Sleepers (1996), Pulp Fiction (1994) and The Usual Suspects (1995). Two from the 80's that leap to mind are The Big Chill (1983) and Stand By Me (1986). Or if you want to go real old school, you could say The Godfather (1972), 12 Angry Men (1957) or It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad World (1963), which is very much like Rat Race.

I'm excluding recent movies like Valentine's Day (2010) where it seems like the actors were cast just for the sake of having a big, famous cast, not becuase they're right for the role.

I'd like to add The Bounty: Anthony Hopkins, Mel Gibson, Laurence Olivier, Daniel Day Lewis, Liam Neeson and a few more I forgot.
And Amistad: Anthony Hopkins, Morgan Freeman, Matthew McConaughey, Djimon Hounsou, Pete Postlethwaite, Stellan Skarsgård, Nigel Hawthorne, Peter Firth, Jeremy Northam, and many more

Best cast ever... this one should have been unanimous -> Glengarry Glen Ross

True Romance if you ask me.

reply

Yes they both have a good cast but in my opinion one is a GREAT film (HEAT) and the other SUCKS (A Time To Kill)
