Anyone else think this flick is kind of Contrived?

this may come off has weird.

But there are a lot of moments in this where i feel there is no Realistic delivery with the dialog or a fitting emotions from the characters when they deliver them.

I don't really know whatever it is, but something about this flick really made me cringe. And for years i have been Scratching my head, has to why feel this way.

Does anyone else feel the same?

Uh uh! Bridgance really gave himself to the role , did you see when his house burned down? He sat with his legs open in a pair of ripped jeans that had a hole right in the crotch! He already let us know he stopped wearing draws because the laundry was piling up since his wife was out of town.

Hit in the ribs by a chicken head...wow! Who comes up with this stuff??! (Shameless)

Speaking of the house fire scene. Why did Jake keep the dog when he is probably busy with the trial of the century? Shouldn't the kids have taken the dog. So, that was contrived to make us feel sad when we thought the dog was in the fire??

The part I found laughable was when the Klan kidnapped Sandra Bullock. They tie her up in the woods, scare her a little and then wander off. The next morning McConaughey just appears without explanation and takes her home.

We all know in a situation like that in reality those guys would have raped the shit out of her. At the very least stripped and humiliated her and/or subjected her to some real abuse.

It's inconsistent and unnecessary that they soft pedalled that shit since the movie opens with the brutal rape of a little girl anyway.
