Is the acting in King movies intentionally the way it is?

It's very melodramatic and over-the-top. Even in the better ones - like IT - you still get these caricature-like performances; like the two actors who played Henry Bowers. Is that something he tells people to do when adapting his movies.

I have always felt King’s books can be melodramatic. It works for the sort of tone he’s going for, but it’s something I have noticed (not helped by the fact that some of his books were written while he had a drug addiction). The movies tend to go along with this.

Even feeling like it's intentionally melodramatic, it's still really bad at times, LOL.

I'm not sure if I'd compare this to the all-time great Cube (1997) but I think I prefer the melodrama in this film as it would have been a worse final product if played straight imo. The melodrama (particularly the way many of his friends and loved ones are unsupportive) makes the atmosphere more urgent, sinister and surreal to me. For similar reasons I also like Silver Bullet.
