The Odd Couple

I noticed how this movie has a lot of similarities to The Odd Couple. Especially with the whole "guy who can't get over his ex" storyline and is taken under his close friend's wing. The gag where Trent goes on a double date with Mike, and Mike ends up blowing things by talking about his ex and being such a 'sweetheart' with the ladies was also in The Odd Couple.

Trent is also a lot like Oscar (Walter Matthau) in that he's more of a lady's man, and very carefree and loose. Mike is like Felix (Jack Lemmon), he's uptight and clingy. The way Mike's character arc plays out is also a bit like Felix's, in that at the end they both get calls from their ex (or Felix thinks he does) but leave them hanging to go be with some new girl(s).

Those aren't the only similarities, from the card games to the group of friends hanging out in the man cave, and how both movies share the lounge / swing vibe. I wouldn't be surprised if the filmmakers of Swingers were highly influenced by The Odd Couple.
